Companies already generate large amounts of environmental data through energy use, purchasing, suppliers, operations and internal systems. The problem is that this information is often collected repeatedly for different projects without being connected or reused.

That creates unnecessary cost and operational work. One team needs the data for a customer request, another for a carbon footprint and another for CSRD. Each time, the same information is copied, reformatted and checked again.

Dcycle is building a different model: one data platform where information is structured once and can then support reporting, savings and operational decisions.

The acquisition of 100% of ESG-X strengthens that model while expanding our capabilities and local presence in the DACH region.

Why this acquisition?

The European environmental data software market has been fragmented for years.

More than a hundred platforms compete to solve individual parts of the problem. Some calculate carbon footprints. Others focus on disclosures, ratings or regulatory workflows.

Companies need something broader.

They need one environment where environmental information can be collected, connected and reused across finance, operations, customers, audits and external requirements.

The ESG-X acquisition moves Dcycle further in that direction.

This is not about adding another company or another standalone tool. It is about integrating capabilities that make the Dcycle data platform more complete and useful for the companies already working with us.

Germany is also one of Europe’s most mature markets for environmental and regulatory data management.

Its mid-market industrial companies face growing pressure from customers, regulators and supply chains, but they do not necessarily want oversized enterprise systems.

Local expertise, German data infrastructure and technology adapted to the DACH market therefore matter.

What is ESG-X?

ESG-X is a Munich-based platform specializing in AI-supported sustainability and regulatory workflows.

Founded through the Antler acceleration program, the company has developed proprietary AI models that can automate materiality assessments, map existing information to regulatory requirements and help identify data gaps.

Its infrastructure is hosted entirely in certified data centres in Germany, supporting strong requirements around security, data protection and GDPR.

Its AI technology has also been developed in accordance with the European AI Act.

From Munich and Düsseldorf, ESG-X serves mid-market organisations across Germany, Austria and Switzerland.

Its work has focused particularly on requirements such as CSRD and VSME.

What changes for our clients?

The ESG-X integration expands what companies can do with data already managed through Dcycle.

The objective is not to create another isolated workflow. These capabilities become part of the same environment where environmental information can already be collected, structured and reused.

AI-powered double materiality assessments

ESG-X has developed models that automate parts of the double materiality assessment process aligned with CSRD requirements.

This can reduce manual work while keeping the process structured and consistent.

For Dcycle clients, double materiality becomes another output connected with the broader data environment rather than a separate project.

Improved image recognition

The acquisition strengthens automatic data capture from invoices and physical documents.

This is especially useful for fuel and energy information that may still arrive in formats that require manual processing.

Better extraction reduces repetitive data entry and makes the information available sooner for calculations, cost analysis and operational decisions.

EcoVadis rating workflows

EcoVadis scores can be commercially important for European industrial companies that sell to larger customers.

ESG-X capabilities can help organisations structure the information required for EcoVadis assessments and identify areas where evidence is incomplete.

The value is not the rating alone.

The same underlying information can also support customer requests, supplier processes and other external requirements.

Automated ESRS outputs

ESG-X technology adds further automation around ESRS-related workflows.

This allows companies to map existing information to specific requirements without creating another disconnected dataset.

CSRD and ESRS therefore remain outputs of structured information rather than the reason the information exists.

Local data residency in Germany

For many companies in the DACH region, local data residency is an important requirement.

The ESG-X infrastructure gives Dcycle additional capability to serve organisations that require data to remain within certified German environments.

Existing Dcycle capabilities become part of a broader platform

These additions complement capabilities already available through Dcycle, including:

  • TÜV Rheinland ISO 14064 certification for carbon footprint calculations.

  • ISO 27001 information security certification.

  • Scope 1, Scope 2 and Scope 3 calculations.

  • Life-cycle analysis.

  • Scope 3 and supply-chain data management.

  • Support for outputs such as CSRD, MITECO, GRI and SBTi.

  • Energy management with ISO 50001 support.

The important point is how these capabilities work together.

Companies should not need separate systems for every carbon calculation, supplier request or regulatory framework.

The same environmental data can support multiple teams and outputs.

The new team members

The three ESG-X founders are joining Dcycle.

Each brings experience that strengthens a different part of the combined platform and our presence in the DACH market.

Paolo Mazza

Paolo Mazza is a software engineer and technical co-founder of ESG-X.

He has led the development of ESG-X’s AI technology and product capabilities.

At Dcycle, Paolo will focus on technological integration and the continued development of our artificial intelligence capabilities.

Valentin Aman

Valentin Aman brings business development experience from Tesla and has led sales and marketing at ESG-X.

He will support Dcycle’s commercial growth in Germany and the wider DACH region.

His local market knowledge will also help us adapt the platform and commercial approach to the requirements of mid-market companies in the region.

Jean Bauer

Jean Bauer is based in Düsseldorf and previously worked as an ESG consultant at Arthur D. Little.

He has led customer success at ESG-X.

At Dcycle, Jean will help ensure that German customers receive local support and guidance around the workflows they manage through the platform.

Our vision: one data platform, many outputs

We see the same problem repeatedly across companies.

Environmental information already exists, but teams collect it again and again.

Finance has energy invoices.

Procurement has supplier information.

Operations has consumption and production data.

Another team then needs the same information for CSRD, a customer questionnaire or a carbon footprint and starts rebuilding the dataset.

That approach creates cost without creating additional value.

Dcycle is building a different model.

Environmental data is collected and structured once.

From there, the same information can serve the person analysing costs, the person managing operations, the person responding to customers and the person preparing external disclosures.

One data point can have many uses.

An electricity invoice can support an emissions calculation, an energy-cost analysis, a CSRD datapoint and a customer request.

Supplier information can support Scope 3 calculations, procurement decisions and external questionnaires.

The value sits in the underlying data structure.

Reporting, savings and operational decisions become different outputs from the same source.

The ESG-X acquisition reinforces that model.

We are not adding another isolated reporting system to the product catalogue. We are integrating technology that improves how information is collected, analysed, mapped and reused.

What comes next

Following our Series A round in December 2024, led by Samaipata, our focus remains disciplined growth through organic expansion and selective integration of complementary technology.

ESG-X fits directly into that strategy.

The combination of structured environmental data, artificial intelligence and one connected platform gives companies a more efficient way to work with information they already generate.

Instead of maintaining separate processes for every carbon footprint, audit, customer questionnaire or regulatory requirement, organisations can build one reliable data foundation.

New requirements can then become new outputs from that foundation rather than new data projects.

With more than 2,000 clients across Europe, a team of nearly 60 people and a presence in three key markets, Dcycle is continuing to expand this model across Europe.

The direction is straightforward: structure environmental data once and make it useful everywhere it is needed.
